Lynx & Bobcat Fur Coats
Lynx and bobcat are the two spotted cat furs we work with, and they are neither the same animal nor the same money. The white lynx half coat here is true lynx: pale, very long haired, and carrying the soft belly markings that make it the single most expensive piece in our catalogue outside Russian sable. The bobcat half coats, one of them hooded, are shorter haired and more strongly spotted. Each is made by hand in our Kastoria workshop, in sizes 36 to 50.

Is bobcat the same as lynx?
They are close relatives, and the trade often sells both under the word lynx, but they are not interchangeable. A bobcat is a lynx species, Lynx rufus, with shorter hair and stronger spotting. What the trade calls lynx proper is the northern cat: paler, much longer haired, with the white belly fur that carries most of the value. We label each piece for what it actually is.
Why does the white lynx coat cost so much more than the bobcat ones?
Because the value in lynx sits in the pale belly fur, which is long, soft, and yielded in small quantity by each pelt, so a coat takes far more skins to match. The white lynx half coat is the most expensive piece in our catalogue outside Russian sable. The bobcat half coats are a fraction of it.
Are these full length coats?
No. Both the lynx and the bobcat pieces are half coats, stopping between the hip and the knee. Either fur at full length would be a custom order.
Is this real lynx and bobcat fur?
Yes. Every piece is made from real pelts, graded and matched by hand in our workshop.
How do you care for a lynx or bobcat coat?
Shake it out rather than brushing it, so the long guard hairs separate without breaking. Hang it with space around it, and if it gets wet let it dry slowly away from any heat. Full guide: How to Clean and Store a Fur Coat.
