Chinchilla is the softest natural fur there is. Its density is what makes it: roughly 60 to 80 hairs grow from a single follicle, against about one for human hair, which is why it feels like nothing else and why it is so light for its warmth. Every Casiani chinchilla piece is cut and finished by hand in our Greek atelier from top-graded skins, matched for the silvery banding that runs through the fur.

Is chinchilla warm enough for a real winter?
Yes, and it is exceptionally warm for its weight. What chinchilla lacks is guard hairs, the coarse outer layer that protects most furs from rain and friction. It handles cold extremely well and wet weather poorly, so treat rain with more caution than you would with mink or sable.
How should a chinchilla coat be cared for?
Store it cool, dark and uncovered with air circulating around it, never in a garment bag. Prioritise humidity control, because without guard hairs the underfur is more exposed to damp. Never use a hair dryer on it and never brush it wet.
How long will a chinchilla coat last?
Properly stored and professionally cleaned, decades. Chinchilla is more delicate than mink under heavy daily wear, so it rewards being treated as an occasion piece rather than an everyday commuter coat.
