FAQ

What is Spanish Merino shearling?

Shearling is a sheepskin tanned with the wool still attached, so one face is supple suede and the other is dense wool. Spanish Merino is the finest grade of it, with a shorter, denser and softer wool than standard shearling, which is why it stays light despite being very warm.

Is Spanish Merino warmer than fur?

It is warm in a different way. Merino traps air in a dense, springy pile and breathes well, so it copes better with damp cold and heated indoor air. Mink and Russian sable are warmer in dry, still cold. For changeable winter weather, Merino is often the more practical choice.

How do I care for a Spanish Merino coat?

Brush the wool gently with a suede brush, hang it on a broad shoulder hanger, and keep it away from direct heat. Never machine wash it. Have it cleaned by a specialist shearling or fur cleaner rather than a standard dry cleaner, because ordinary solvents dry out the suede backing.

What sizes do Casiani Spanish Merino pieces come in?

Sizes 36 to 50, hand-finished in our atelier in Kastoria, Greece. If you need a size or specification outside that range, we take custom orders.
